Day 2 – Tue. or Wed. Visit Montserrat
Breakfast at the hotel. Pick up from your hotel for a morning Highlights tour of Barcelona, visiting places such as, the cathedral and its cloister, the Gothic Quarter and Plaça Sant Jaume, the Olympic Village, Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, Olympic Port, Palau Sant Jordi, the Calatrava Tower and climbing by Montjuïc mountain. We will visit El Poble Espanyol (the Spanish Village), collection of traditional buildings from all over Spain, demonstrating a selection of the handcrafts made in country and we will enjoy an aerial view of Barcelona from the cable car (from January to March, dates to confirm, the cable car doesn’t work due to revision tasks, and this service will be replace by a tapas tasting in Spanish Village).
In the afternoon, departure from JULIA TRAVEL bus terminal (Calle Balmes, 5, 300 mts far from Plaza Catalunya) at 3.00 p.m. for a half day tour to Montserrat. The mountain of Montserrat which rises majestically to 4,051 feet (1,236 meter). You will go up to Montserrat with Gog – Wheel Train. It is a 15-minute trip with a privileged and spectacular view of the mountain. The rocks of Montserrat formed by natural cement of sand during the centuries affected by the wind and rain who shaped the mountain with strange and varied forms. You will visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th century Romanesque carving of Virgen Moreneta, the Black Virgin. The Benedict sanctuary of Montserrat has been founded at 1025 and provides a mystical backdrop for the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia who is enshrined in the monastery’s Royal Basilica. The little monastery soon began to receive pilgrims and visitors who contributed to the spread of stories of miracles and wonders performed by the Virgin. Today, Montserrat has been modernized to continue attending to the needs to pilgrims one thousand years after it was originally founded. You have
Day 3 – Wed. or Thu.
Breakfast at the hotel. Pick up from your hotel for a full day tour to Girona & Figueres with Dali Museum.This tour offers you to visit the 2 biggest cities north of Barcelona: Girona, medieval city with one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in Europe and Figueras with its unique Dalí Theater- Museum.
First you will visit Girona, a monumental city where you can experience its history in the small streets of the old city center. You will enjoy a walking tour of the city, visiting the Cathedral in the old city centre, with its well-preserved medieval streets that lead you towards the famous pastel colored houses at the edge of the river bank. The old city centre of Girona holds an important artistic heritage.
The Dalí Theater- Museum in Figueras (30km from Girona) holds the biggest collection of artworks that represent the artistic evolution of Salvador Dalí, from his first artistic experiments until his surreal creations and his art he made during the last years of his life. Transfer back to Barcelona and balance of the day at leisure.Accommodation at hotel.
Day 4 – Thu.or Fri.
Breakfast at the hotel. Pick up from your hotel for a morning excursion to Sitges with Freixenet Wine Cava Cellars. Discover the most romantic sites in Catalonia: visit the famous wine cellar of Cava Freixenet and Sitges, one of the most beautiful villages at the Catalonian coast. During this visit you will learn about the history of the production of cava, a sparkling wine like champagne one of most famous wine from Spain and Catalonian origin. The wine cellar of Cava Freixenet is known for its cava exported all over the world. The guided visit of the cava wine cellar includes an audiovisual and a visit of the old wine cellar build in 1922. During the visit the guides will explain the process making the cava wine. They will give you advice about the service and consumption of the cava. The visit ends with a tour in a little train of the modern part of the wine cellar and of course a taste of the worldly known cava. After the visit of the wine cellar the bus brings you to one of the most beautiful coastal towns of Catalonia called Sitges. Sitges is the most popular destination for Catalonian Tourists. His beaches, microclimate with almost 300 days of sun a year, a vibrant cultural live, good food, nice and unique shops turn Sitges into favourite destination to relax and enjoy the rest of our tour at the Mediterranean coast. You will definitely want to visit Sitges. Afternoon at leisure for independent activities. Accommodation at the hotel.
Day 5 – Fri. or Sat.
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Barcelona’s airport. Take the time to reflect on your wonderful tour of Catalonia.
